Government Mandates, Conservation and Recycling
Although compliance is voluntary, we employ all reasonable means to guarantee that shredded materials are recycled to the highest degree. Several federal acts encourage recycling, including:
a) the 1965 Solid Waste Disposal Act, which provided financial help for waste programs;
b) the 1970 Resource Recovery Act, which expanded the effort for waste programs;
c) the 1976 Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, which created strict requirements for environmental safegaurds for landfills and incineration programs.
All of these laws have had an impact on recycling activity in this country. In addition, a majority of US states have established recycling goals.
Federal Law
(HIPAA) The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 regulates the healthcare industry in the US and assures that healthcare organizations are responsible for the secure electronic transmission, secure storage and disposal of patient information. see also (WI HIPAA)
(SOX) The Sarbanes Oxley was enacted to protect shareholders and the general public from accounting errors and fraudulent practices in the enterprise.
(GLB) The Gramm-Leach Bliley Act of 1999 requires financial institutions to develop precautions to ensure the security and confidentiality of customer information, and to protect against unauthorized access to or use of such records. This includes secure storage, disposal, and sharing of confidential information.
(FACTA) The Fair and Accurate Credit Transactions Act of 2003 amends the Fair Credit Reporting Act. The Act is intended to combat consumer fraud and related crimes, including identity theft, and to assist its victims. Specifically, the act requires the destruction of papers containing CONSUMER INFORMATION.
